The Genial Hearth
I’ve just put the kettle on, join me for a cuppa and a chat.

Forgotten Garden bits (stuff I didn’t do:-) )

Before I started working on the vegie garden, the mulberry tree in the front yard was already beginning to set its second lot of fruit this year. It’s now colouring nicely, and we should get a good crop—assuming we can keep Puggle from tasting them all before they’re ripe!

The plum tree in the backyard is also flowering. It’s so very cool to watch as it goes from bare leaves, to a few white flowers, to masses of them and then adds leaves. I would probably not have thought to plant a plum, but given it was here I figured I’d leave it… and it’s delightful. Now, I’d definitely include one anywhere I had the space. Although, I’d choose a european rather than japanese variety… we get so many at once we can’t eat them all, and it’s a right pain to de-stone them:-(

We are once again starting to collect grapefruit. Like the plum, I would never have thought to include a grapefruit. Unlike the plum, I probably still wouldn’t. I might _consider_ a pink one, as it does seem that some people use them, but we always struggle to use/dispose of the yellow ones.

And of course the lemon tree is going strong. The two months or so of no fruit are over, so we now have masses on the tree.

(I did plant the mulberry tree, but it’s activity is not as a direct result of me… I have now given it some food though, after seeing Liz’s. It’s the same age but looks _so_ much happier.)
