Week 2, Block 1, Boronia Term
We’re not fully into the swing of things, but this week I anticipate a full week of work. Not all subjects, but Copywork (d, f); Latin (need to work out what comes after choosing a name aka pronunciation); Maths (about time!); Recorder (getting back to practicing daily) and Reading.
In addition, we should get to something for each of the focus areas (Classical Studies—Norse Myths (more Greek ones too, if the book arrives in time:-) ); Science—Nature Study (I keep hoping… but actually, if it continues so hot, I’ll be happy enough to see it go… although, he’ll probably observe stuff at VacSwim); English Studies—memorising from ‘Now We Are Six’, beginning ‘Blinky Bill’ (as a read aloud) and beginning Narration with ‘50 Famous Stories Retold’; History—Story of the World, volume 2; and probably no art to speak of this week:-) There’ll also be some Geography, as we begin our journey around the world in Japan (not that I’ve managed to reserve any books from the library… the online catalogue has been down each time I’ve thought to do it:-( ), and we should manage to cook appropriately on Saturday night:-)
And of course, our weekly French lesson. We’re beginning a new topic this week, Wild Animals (we did farm animals just before Christmas). We’re starting in Asia.
That actually sounds like quite a bit… especially with daily swimming lessons! Ah well, we’ll see how we go:-)

I’m sticking quite close to the resolutions of the past couple of years. They haven’t been resounding successes (probably because they’re not SMART:-) ), but I am still referencing them.
So, in 2010, I plan to Make More Music, and Play More Games. In some ways, these both get easier as the kids get older:-)
I plan to add Make More (interesting) Bread. (I do a couple of loaves a week, but they’re a pretty standard loaf. I have a few specialist loaves I’ve been meaning to experiment with, so i reckon one every couple of months would be a good effort. Turkish Bread, Ciabatta, Naan, Pita… I have a feeling there was another I was considering [Paddington has suggested Parathas:-) ]. Basically though, if I can master the first two, I’ll count it as a successful year:-) )
I need to Drink More Water, and I really do need to do something to get more fit (hmm… I didn’t even deign to capitalise that… that says a lot!)
I’m hoping to start reading (well, if we’re doing Don Quixote, I’ll be listening!) through some Great Books with another Home Schooling mum:-) We’ve been talking about it… but maybe it’s a good time to start:-)
That’s quite a bit! So a good place to stop:-)

Our plans for
Week 5, Block 6, Dorothea Term (Break Week)
With the end of this term, I had planned that Puggle would have finished a couple of books, so we can move on to something else… we’re not quite there, so we’ll read a couple more Aesop’s Fables
over the week, and another chapter of The Orchard Book of Roman Myths
.
He’s also (I think?) at a bit of a cusp with his maths work, so we’ll do a couple of lessons (probably Tuesday and Thursday) just to keep it in his mind. For the same reason, I’ll get him to read something each day.
He has already said he still wants his boxes, even though it’s Break Week! (My task for Break Week is going to be to get the ’structural’ aspects of his boxes set up. I still need to laminate his numbers, and then attach all the velcro dots.)

We’ll keep singing, and we’ll probably try and do a little Latin and a couple of the readings (we seem to regularly miss the Classical Studies readings… I may need to rethink doing them on Mondays!) Otherwise, I’m going to spend a little bit of time trying to get ready to start testing out Workboxes from next week.
